TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE ENERGY TRANSITION

After the COVID emergency, in its 12th edition, GEM (Green Energy Management) returns itinerant, and will take place in Kazakhstan, a country in full expansion, eager to open to the Western world and fully cooperate. GEM is now managed by SILKWAY, a network of scientists and companies from Europe and Asia.

Description

The main aim of GEM - SILKWAY is to provide international students with a context sensitive first-class training in the field of Green Energy Management with a wide perspective from technical sciences to economics, finance and humanities. GEM- SILKWAY offers a wide perspective from technical sciences to goepolitics, economics and human sciences. GEM - SILKWAY covers:

  • Sustainability of Energy Transition - World and Europe Energy scenario
  • Geopolitics of Energy
  • Technical applications of renewable energy
  • Best experience from energy companies

In the past eleven editions of GEM, students from all over the world (East and West Europe, Africa, Asia, South America) have shared classrooms and field experience, making connections and proposing new projects. GEM is now managed by the SILKWAY Network, The main objective of SILKWAY is to promote research, training and the dissemination of knowledge at all levels of society by agreeing on joint initiatives between the network partners and creating links between business, academia and civil society.

Topics Covered

After a common introductory track (issues on world, europe, central asia and caucasus region energy scenarios, social and economic sustainability), gem-silkway participants will choose between two study tracks:

Humanities

  • Social and human issues in the energy transition
  • The new economic geography
  • Energy politics with focus in central eurasia

Technical

  • Use of energy sources with low environmental impact
  • Sustainable mobility
  • Energy finance

Prerequisites

Priority will be given to students participants holding a Master degree, but application by master students is encouraged and will be evaluated on the basis of the applicant motivation and background.

Covid-19 restrictions

At present time, Summer Schools' participants, in application of the University's internal rules, will be asked to show their enhanced COVID-19 green certification. Currently passengers arriving in Kazakhstan must have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result issued no more than 72 hours before arrival. Updated info will be shared to all selected participants.
